I have had my rzr for only 3 months and cant tell that this is a serious issue. I know its an offroad vechile but it justs seems that this design does not work. I have tried every aftermarket filter for the stock box and it still seems to be pulling to much dust. I am currently looking into the many options of the aftermarket world but have not decided on a particular one.

I’m glad this issue has come up. I bought my 2009 polaris rzr on July 30th, 08. We went on vacation August 1st, 08 and rode the Oregon Sand Dunes down in Coos Bay. I was there for 10 days. On our 8th day there I noticed that my engine wasn’t running right. I checked the oil and it was empty. I added oil to it and everything seemed ok for the time. I was stunned. The next day my engine was losing power. I checked the oil and it was very low. I checked the air filter and there was alot of sand in the air filter. I cleaned it out and knew I needed to get it in for service. When I got home the next day I took it in to get it serviced. The next day I get a call from the service department where I bought my RZR and was told that sand had gotten thru the air filter and intake and went straight to the motor. We are now waiting on Polaris to see if they will cover this under warranty. We were told that Polaris is aware of this problem. Wish me luck!! I hope that more people will respond to see if there are more people out there with the same problem.

I purchased my RZR in May of 2008. It now has 445 miles on it and had to have the engine rebuilt. I am using an aftermarket air filter which I would have to change out after 2-3hrs of riding in dusty conditions. Whe I took the RZR back to the dealer I was informed that I was one of 7 RZR owners in my area that was having the same issues (dust getting past the filter and into the engine). Polaris’s response so far to this issue has been to do more service on airfilter system. Currently I carry a backup filter when I ride and swap filters regularly. Apparently this was not good enough as I am now paying for an engine rebuild.

hey guys. sorry for ur bad luck but I have had the exact same problems and polaris does know about it. wish they wud have a recall or something to get this thing solved. im snorkeling mine to get the intake out of tha dust but still will check my filter regullarly for sure. mine has more miles on it than y’alls but its on its second rebuild and its from dust! I ride on tha roads a lot but this thing has not been abused at all. luv tha machine but we shouldn’t have to check tha air box every day no matter what conditions we ride in. maybe iif we raise enough hell we can get somethin done about this!

I too am having problems with my 2008 gen 1 rzr. The bike has 62 hrs on it and sucked in dust after the boot came off the throttle body. It’s been in the shop now 2 weeks and dealer has still not touched it. If Polaris does not cover this under warranty there is a class action lawsuit and I will also put my name in. Polaris should act on this responsibly and quickly but they are not so far. My dealer denied knowing anything about this problem. I do know Polaris has sent out a bulletin giving an extended warranty of 18 months past your six month warranty for dust related problems. I have a copy of this letter so if anyone would like acopy e-mail me and I will send you a copy.

Have now had my RZR for a couple of months now. Have the same trouble with the stock filter and aftermarket filters letting dust in. The intake system on the standard box is poorly located. On dirt trails the filter requires a clean every two to three hours! For the cost of these great machines the company needs to come up with a better system and not leave it to an after market manufacturer. It is an obvous problem when you see the number of adverse comments world wide

I have had my rzr for only three months and i am already having problems with the intake. I have been changing my oil about every 300 miles or so also replaced the air filter 4 times. It is currently in the shop however the service guys seem to think that it may not be under warranty. I do know that warranties do not cove abuse and neglect. I feel that i have done neither. It makes me very angry that polaris wont back up their product when they know that it was a design flaw, if it wasnt an issue they wouldnt be offering their extra 18 monthwarranty and sending the “”NEW AND IMPROVED AIRFILTER”" . the piont is they know that their is a problem, and if they continue to give us the consumer the runaround then we will likely get wise to this and make sure that our next puchase is one that will not include polaris industries.
